'79 Buick Riviera Atari Option, originally uploaded by nfotxn.

With all the current buzz about cramming as many LCD screens as possible into over-the-top, pimped-out cars, it behooves us to remember that folks have been figuring ways to get the ever-fascinating idiot box into their rides since the dawn of time. Wait'll you get a load of Kevin's '79 "Atari Package" Buick Riviera, featuring an under-the-dash video-game system complete with a 13-inch woodgrain TV and one of those old joysticks with the single red button. The Atari Package was clearly not a factory option—John thinks that the game unit looks like a Sears clone, which didn't even become available until the early 80's. But in terms of old school cool, it doesn't get much better than this. Think you could manage Space Invaders while driving?

See how cushy that interior is? I must say as much as I like the hyper-minimized even deconstructivist or retro aesthetic of interiors today to look at... nothing beats a big boat that feels like you're riding around on a moving Ultramatic bed.

Didja know that the atari 2600 was made from 100% off the shelf parts? So anyone, including sears, could make a knockoff!

First, and LAST time that happened in a videogame system.

Hmmm, I figured there was some legal reason Sears could do that. I didn't know it was that simple. Thanks!

I think that, given how powerful all electronics are, that there be a law passed requiring pacmac on all devices.

Dude, that is the freshest thing I've seen in a long while. F* LCD screens in the A*. It's all about the tube.

Well done, Kevin. Well done.

I still love CRT's. For the viewing of highly compressed video they do this amazing job of smoothing out the compression artifacts.

I know what you mean. The internet porn videos I downloaded on my computer looked way better on my CRT. Now that I have an LCD monitor, I sometimes wonder: "Is that jizz or a compression artifact?" Just sayin'.
