No Really, Rem Koolhaus is building a Deathstar.

Dude let's get a Corona and watch our Deathstar and chill here on these cute chairs. We can watch our Deathstar physically suck money out of our wallets at gas stations, across the sea and into the giant hole between the cabana patio and the hot rock massage spa.

Dude how do you think they heat the rocks for the hot stone massages? It's GREEN ENERGY DUDE!

Holy extravagant excess, Batman! These must be an answer to the islands being built off the coast of Dubai.

Yeah there is a huge tourism spike in the UAE. My Dad worked out of Dubai for decades working in oil shipping and has this incredible stories about how crazy rich people can be there. And how crazy poor.

It is kinda like the deathstar, but it reminds me more of the Panasonic am radios I had as a kid... they looked like an of centered O, and you could twist them out into an S shape.

Kinda whimsical and fabulous looking as a building I think!

Oh I dig Rem Koolhaus' work. But I mean, come on, it's a cultural icon and really from that angle it's kinda, you know, totally the same looking.

No, but that is even more like that proposed building!

The one I had literally would twist into an S. When it was closed the o in the center was off center, one end of the S was the dial, one the speaker.

I kinda like the building, why not have a groovy round building?

Oh I'm glad it's being built. I'm just saying it's sorta like a building shaped like The Bat Signal. People are going to notice. Which is the point I suppose.

Well yeah, I just love that it's not an entirely vertical shape.

Of course since it and it's sister building on the other side of the bay are based on the moon, it's bound to look like some sort of celestial body.

my $.02

like it or not these things are gonna keep going up, so what shouldn't they at least be visually interesting?

Is that the same project as this? Or are there dueling Deathstars?

dueling Deathstars

Now that could possibly be a very interesting space battle. Maybe someone should mention it to Lucas. On second thought....

At first glance I thought it was the Dubai Deathstar. On a similar note, most people don't realize that there something just as grusome, albeit more triangular like, in Pyongyang:

And it's totally dilapidated on the inside innit.

Yup. Empty and unfinished. N.K. ran out of money... and, face it, tourism to the North ain't what it was supposed to be.

Is it just me, or does that building look like an Imperial Star Destroyer?

Who wants to toss a cherry bomb down its 2 meter wide exhaust port?

On another note, while I'm on the fence about the final product, it IS nice to see people actually taking chances with architecture and design (flawed and horrible as it may turn out) instead of putting up more bland, played out scandinavian minimalist boxes.

I'm entirely convinced that scandinavian minimalist is code for 'as cheaply built with as few ammenities as possible'.

Your intolerance of the excesses of oil-rich civilizations is truly Orientalist. You should be ashamed of yourself.

And in Dublin!!
