I like the ning social network for bearded dudes created to replace that other one. However I must comment on the non-sexuality divisive policy of the site/Ning. I've looked high and low for a heterosexual man on The Society for [...] and so far have come up empty handed. I'm not criticizing the decision to keep it open, I think that's the right thing to do. But I think the reality of the situation is that if you're that interested in beards I think it's pretty clear that you might be just a little bit gay. Or figuring out that you're gay or bisexual or beersexual or whatever. Which is why the open nature of the network is good. At the same time people putting little "[G]"s in their name to signify that they are HOMOSEXUALS CAUTION seems a tad redundant.

I know of one straight guy there. And as these things go there are guys that are super curious about gay stuff that will find it a "safe" place to check stuff out. But I do notice he doesn't have an ORIENTATION box to fill in.

I don't think it's a warning so much as an advertisement.

There were a couple of straight guys on the old site; not sure if they made it to the new site or not ...

Actually, I think it's great: not heterophobic, but defintiely homocentric. For most communities it's the exact opposite. It's nice to send an object lesson to tolerant straights every now and then.

Yeah I agree. I mean I roll with enough awesome heteros to know that lots of people roll with it. I had an LJ drama fight (first in MONTHS! Never have the time lately) with some HRC kinky homo who didn't get the whole love-thy-whatever mantra. So I'm glad to be part of things that are just human scale. Be you. Let's do our thing and be happy.

I am the founder and webmaster of The Society and it is not a gay site...I have a lot of gay members, but as many straight men too that use the site... I like to say it's non orientational... It's for men, whether they are gay or straight or otherwise I suppose... :D
