Gonna write a series on the music I like. Why? 'CAUSE I'VE GOT NOTHING BETTER TO DO.

Electronic

I'm queer, I like electronic music. Get used to it. Yes, there's a lot of crap out there. Love Inc., for example, can kiss my furry ass. It's highly marketed candy-electronic that doesn't know if it's house or Britney Spears. On the other hand there's some amazing shit going on. Basically anything on warp records can rim said ass.

Here's a list of records I should consume in the elctronic category. If you have one of these records, and it royally blows.. comment me!

Square Pusher - Selection Sixteen
I've only heard good things about this dude. He's teamed up with Richard D. James aka Aphex Twin a few times. It can't be bad. Jazzy, ravish, fun.

Autechre - EP7
I have all the mp3s, might as well give the man some respect. I'll buy Confield when it comes out soon too. What the heck.

re: squarepusher - i haven't heard "selection sixteen" yet, but I have all his other shit. he flips back and forth between freeform floaty head-trippy jazz stuff and cheap acid/drill-n-bass (which i like better). "big loada" is excellent.
re: autechre - ep7 is brilliant, but seems to be the only autechre work I can stand. quite a nice disc.

i am also digging Wagon Christ's new disc "musipal". Rather warbly dancy stuff. and I should probably plug my friend eric's label, audio dregs (http://www.audiodregs.com) :) nice indie pop and electronic stuff, and i hear that kid whatever remix on the sensualists "adaptations" cd is really good *cough**plug*it's me**cough*

listend to an loved
- Air
They've got a retro vibe akin to Daft Punk, but less.. weird.

- Atari Teenage Riot (for the little anarchist in you)
Alex Empire absolutely rocks. Who said politics can't be part of electronic music? PLUR my ass!

- Leftfield
Love 'em! Afroride is a great track. Roni Size is a good comparision.

- Photek
I call good beats "Photek Beats". Solaris is a disappointment, but Form/Function rocks.

Unknown and to be explored

- Asian Dub Foundation (Dub)
- Breakbeat Era (Roni Size. Says everything)

- Maddkatt Courtship (nice electronica)

Asian Dub Foundation is an interesting blend of styles. If you like political music (ala Alec Empire [which reminds me for like the billionth time to check out some more Atari Teenage Riot.] You may be into this, since it's pure agit-prop. It's rather heavy handed, but they utilize some fresh asian sounds with Drum and Bass and Dub elements. Coooooool

Breakbeat Era- I like this album even though it's not Roni Size's best work. Many people have said that it doesn't measure up to Reprazent. My major complaint with the album is that it feels like everyone except the vocalist is holding back, strictly for the purpose of framing the vocals. Which is good in theory but it still shouldn't be that obvious. Fortunately I do think the vocalist rocks, so it is at least to some benifit.

Other stuff.

Having only listened to Supermodified I can't speak with certainty, but I have heard that everything Amon Tobin touches turns to gold. Supermodified I can say with certainty an act of sonic brilliance.

Every time I hang with my buddy Steve he puts on this CD that kicks my ass. I totaly I always forget who does it though. I think his name is Luke Viper. Does anyone know anything about this guy?

The Handsome Boy Modeling School project put out by Prince Paul and Dan the Automator has a lot of hip-hop on it but with a lot of cool innovators colaborating (DJ Shadow, Kid Koala, Alec Empire). Many styles but very good!

(To my great embarrassment a number of the albums mentioned here Have escaped my notice. I should do more digging!)
